WHOLE FOODS TO
GROW PRODUCE ON ROOFTOP GARDEN
(Author : Leah Gonzalez)
Since its inception in 2011, Gotham Greens has been growing produce in sophisticated rooftop greenhouses in Brooklyn, New York and supplying premium quality produce to retail businesses and restaurants. Because the company has the experience and expertise, it will be responsible for designing, building, and operating the greenhouse, and Whole Foods will simply be purchasing the produce from them for their stores. Gotham Greens is also free to supply other clients in case of excess.
The new rooftop farm will produce leafy greens, herbs, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and will have its own advance irrigation system that use less water than conventional farms as well as glazing and electrical equipment that reduce energy consumption. The greenhouse is scheduled to open the same time as the Whole Foods Market and the entire project will provide jobs for many locals. Whole Foods is also planning to create educational opportunities for local residents and schools to learn more about greenhouse farming and other related initiatives.
