Japanese cosmetic brand's 'phygital' retail concept

SK-II’s Future X Smart Store is designed to create a pressure-free shopping experience for time-pressed travellers

(Author : Springwise)

Cosmetics brand SK-II recently unveiled its first travel-retail beauty smart store. The Future X Smart Store provides travellers with access to the brand’s unique ‘phygital’  retail concept — a physical retail space with the digital convenience of online shopping.

The Future X Smart Store is designed to create a pressure-free shopping experience for time-pressed travellers. It consists of the Discovery Bar, the Smart Product Scan and the Skincare GPS, all of which aim to help travellers locate, learn and shop for SK-II products quickly and easily.

The Discovery Bar provides information about the brand’s products with a single touch. However, if they already know what they want and have the images of the products on their mobile device, the Smart Product Scan will use advanced image recognition technology to help locate and direct shoppers to the product quickly. Additionally, the Skincare GPS can signal specific shelf lights to illuminate to further guide consumers.

The SK-II Future X Smart Store is open at The Shilla Duty Free at Terminal 2 of Singapore Changi Airport. The brand has also launched several Future X Smart Stores in Tokyo and Shanghai, as well as one at CES in early 2019.
