Tesco reduces energy costs by 10% with innovative AI technology.

Tesco has successfully reduced its energy bills by 10% across eight distribution centers by implementing a new AI technology from Star Refrigeration. 

 

This innovative approach involved a minor adjustment—increasing fridge temperatures by just one degree. 

 

The trial of Ethos AI system has not only cut costs but also led to significant environmental benefits, saving over 835 tonnes of CO2e and 4GWh in energy over 21 months. 

 

Initially tested in three sites, the technology expanded to five additional locations, enabling Tesco’s maintenance team to optimize operational efficiency and energy use. 

 

This strategy, which deviates from standard practices by slightly raising chill temperatures, has demonstrated a potential pathway for the retail sector to achieve substantial energy savings and reduce carbon footprints, showcasing Tesco’s leadership in sustainable business practices.
