In a significant step towards revolutionizing the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience, Fastned has inaugurated its first motorway service station in Belgium, marking a milestone in sustainable travel infrastructure. Located on the E19 in Brecht, between Antwerp and Breda, this new facility is more than just a charging station—it’s an innovative blend of convenience and sustainability, designed to cater to the evolving needs of EV drivers.

The Future of Motorway Service Stations.

Fastned’s new service station represents a forward-thinking approach to motorway amenities, offering a range of facilities that enhance the charging experience. This is the first of its kind to feature a shop, a restaurant, and toilet facilities, providing a holistic solution for travelers. The company has aptly dubbed this concept the “motorway service station of the future,” emphasizing its commitment to sustainability and customer comfort.

Sustainable Design and Comfort.

The station’s design is a testament to Fastned’s dedication to sustainability. Constructed with sustainable materials like wood, the building is designed for energy efficiency, incorporating a heat pump and solar panels on its green roof to generate its own energy. This eco-friendly design extends to the interior, where visitors can relax on comfortable lounge sofas in the ‘Greenhouse’ area, enjoying fresh Bocca coffee and a tranquil environment.

A Broader Vision.

Fastned’s vision extends beyond Belgium. The company plans to introduce similar service stations in other locations, with the next one set to open in Gentbrugge on the E17 motorway next year. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance the charging infrastructure across Europe. In Germany, Fastned aims to transform the 34 motorway locations it secured through a tender process, focusing on improving the customer experience significantly.

Fastned’s first motorway service station in Belgium is a pioneering step towards a future where EV charging is not only efficient but also enjoyable and sustainable. By integrating shops, restaurants, and comfortable amenities, Fastned is setting a new benchmark for EV infrastructure. As the company continues to expand and innovate, the vision of a comprehensive, customer-focused charging network is becoming a reality.
