The inaugural Coty boutique has recently unveiled its offerings in Paris’s renowned Marais district. This launch represents a unique international venture to showcase their latest fragrance collection. Amidst a burgeoning prestige fragrance market, the Coty pop-up store adopts an experimental ‘test and learn’ strategy, inviting patrons to immerse themselves in and explore the brand’s distinctive milieu.

 

A Storied Brand.

 

Established in 1904 by François Coty, the brand has ascended to a prominent position within the perfume industry. Coty pioneered the field by adopting innovative production methodologies and incorporating superior-quality ingredients. They were pioneers in synthesising notes with natural essences, a groundbreaking method that positioned Coty as one of the world’s most illustrious perfume houses. This illustrious history is celebrated in a video presented within the ephemeral store.

The inaugural Coty boutique in Paris quintessentially reflects the brand’s enduring commitment to tradition and innovation established since its foundation. Choosing Paris as the venue to introduce the brand’s physical presence was a deliberate homage to its roots; it was here that Coty launched its first fragrance, ‘La Rose Jacqueminot’, in 1904, showcased in an exquisitely designed Baccarat bottle. The boutique features ‘Infiniment Coty’, a collection of 14 fragrances segmented into three distinct groups. These fragrances artfully blend art, heritage, and innovation, echoing the brand’s core philosophy.

This pop-up store encapsulates the innovative spirit of François Coty, who transformed perfumery by harmonising natural and synthetic notes and pioneering the chypre (or Cyprus) category. Designed to narrate the fragrance’s history and explore its nuances, the pop-up includes a poem that captures the essence and meticulous craft behind the fragrance’s creation. The entire range centres around a novel molecule named Aura, crafted exclusively for the collection to ensure that the fragrance’s integrity remains consistent over time, impervious to environmental changes such as light, skin pH, wind, or fabric.

The Botanical Garden.

 

Upon entering the boutique, you are immediately transported into a botanical garden, a visionary space populated with 14 fictitious flowers, each embodying one of the brand’s signature fragrances. This entrance immerses customers in an original, multi-sensory exploration of the brand’s essence. The flowers are displayed in chronological sequence, beginning with the “Dawn” collection, characterised by its fresh notes, moving through the brand’s celebrated fragrances marked by chypre and floral notes, and culminating with the “Dusk” collection, noted for its deeper amber tones. This innovative setup provides an opportunity to fully engage with and appreciate the entirety of Coty’s creative legacy.

 

The Infinity Room.

 

The Infinity Room provides a singular immersive experience, featuring a colossal Coty fragrance bottle, infinitely replicated by a series of strategically placed mirrors on either side. This enchanting space allows visitors to delve further into the brand’s imaginative realm, with screens throughout the room projecting an animated spectrum of shapes and colours, representing the various flowers from the Chimera Garden. This experience not only captivates the senses but also deepens the connection with the brand’s innovative spirit.

A Pop-Up Gallery.

 

“Art gives luxury a soul,” declares Nicolas Vu, who was tasked with infusing the pop-up with a multi-sensory, artistic ambiance. This ethos is manifest in the careful design of each bottle by founders Sue Nabi and Nicolas Vu, who envisage the bottles as stackable glass artworks, serving as canvases for creative expression. In a pioneering collaboration with the Foire d’Art Contemporain Africain 1-54, 14 artists, carefully selected by the founders, were afforded the chance to provide their unique artistic interpretations of a fragrance from the collection. Currently, three pieces, including ‘Encore une fois’, are available for purchase, part of a wider collection of 14. The remaining works are slated for display in various boutiques across Asia and New York, marking upcoming projects.
